If you are the owner of an automobile, it is only natural that you own some tools. Depending on the sort of automobile that you own, the tools could vary, albeit very little. It is good to know your tools and to have them handy whenever you need them.

It is also good to learn a little about the mechanics of your vehicle so that when an emergency catches you off guard, you will have an idea of what to do. The simplest of the tasks involve things like changing flat tires.

The good thing with vehicles is that the main components of the engine are right before you on the dashboard. There is an indication to show the temperature of the engine, the amount of fuel you have left, whether there is an oil leak, and many more other notifications, depending on the brand of the car.

That makes it easier for us to manage our vehicles and even know when they are due for maintenance.

Maintenance is something that should never be taken lightly. When ignored, it could lead to catastrophic things like accidents due to a failed engine or body part. During maintenance, there are segments to take into consideration.

Firstly, there is the mechanical functioning of the car, and then there comes the electrical functioning. The electrical functioning deals with things like the lighting and other power factors such as the steering wheel. The mechanical factor zeroes in on the engine and it’s functioning. In this article, we are going to look at automobile tool names and the functions of these tools.

Wrenches

You can either get manual or power wrenches. Wrenches are used to loosen or tighten bolts and nuts. Manual wrenches are much cheaper than the power ones, but the power ones are more effective when it comes to removing stubborn nuts. These wrenches come in different sizes and are made to work with both metric and standard size bolts and nuts.

Ratchets

These are also very important, and they come in different sizes. The basic sizes or drives are ¼ inch, 3/8 inch and ½ inch, being the most common sizes. Most sets selling ratchets usually include all three sizes and even more.

Sockets

These are good for removing hidden bolts and nuts. They come in both shallow or long form, and they also come in different sizes, most commonly ¼ inch, 3/8 inch and ½ inch.

Screwdrivers

These come in both flat and star tipped, and they also come in different sizes to suit different needs. There are many different types of screwdrivers that are used for different purposes. There is even a screwdriver that can be used as a pry bar; this is a screwdriver that can even take a beating from a hammer. The most commonly used screwdrivers include: the stubbed screwdriver, the normal length screwdriver, the heavy-duty flathead screwdriver, the small flathead screwdriver, and the Torx screwdriver.

Pliers

These are great tools for gripping and even cutting. They are essential tools for vehicle owners. They can also be used to loosen bolts and nuts. The most commonly used types of pliers include: regular pliers, vise grips, and the long- and short-needle nose.

Multimeter

This is an essential tool for checking electric currents. When buying one, you should make sure that it can check the amperage, since some of the lower end devices do not offer this.

Jack

Have you ever gotten a puncture only to realize that you don’t have a jack? This can be very frustrating, especially if you were driving in the middle of nowhere, where there were no other vehicles. A jack is a must have for any vehicle owner. It could either be a manual or a hydraulic model. There are bigger jacks that are used in workshops for commercial purposes.

Extension bars

You might be able to see a bolt, but it is too far for you to reach it with a wrench. This is where an extension bar comes in handy. They are made of varying lengths, and the heads are made of different sizes to enable them to grip bolts and nuts of different sizes.

Socket swivels

Like extension bars, they are aimed for hidden bolts and nuts. They provide bend and flexibility to reach the bolts.

There are many more automobile tools and above mentioned are the most commonly used tools used in automobile maintenance.
